MONROE COUNTY - The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and Monroe County Engineer's Office announce abridge replacement on County Road 68near the intersection of TWP Rd 590 as part of Ohio's Bridge Partnership Program.

"Thanks to operational savings within ODOT and the leadership of Governor Kasich, we are able to make southeast Ohio roads safer and more accessible," said District 10 Deputy Director Steve Williams.

The program will invest approximately $120 million in repairing 200 statewide local bridges over the next three years. A total of up to 15 local bridges will be repaired throughout southeast Ohio including the Monroe CR 68 bridge.

"We're glad to have ODOT's help to improve some of our low graded bridges," said Monroe County Engineer Lonnie Tustin, P.S., P.E.

Currently, the CR 68 bridge is graded at 18 tons. Once the replacement has been made the bridge will be rated approximately 60 tons.

Earlier this year, ODOT began working with the Ohio County Engineers Association on a plan to help counties improve the condition of their bridges and make Ohio's bridges safer. Under the leadership of Gov. John R. Kasich, ODOT developed the first-of-its-kind program that is providing resources to assist counties and cities with the maintenance of bridges including bridge embankments, drainage repairs, and other related issues.

Construction begins August 6, 2014 and extends through October 5, 2014. The bridge will be CLOSED during construction.

The eastbound detour will be Jericho Low Gap Road South to Township Hwy 575 East to Dye Ridge Road South to Big Lick Road South to Township Hwy 571 East to Brownsville County Line Road North to Greenbrier Road North to Jericho Low Gap Road.
