JOHNSTOWN - The Greater Johnstown School District Board of Education on Thursday approved a replacement for Warren Street Elementary School Principal Scott Ziomek, who recently resigned.

Following an executive session, the board appointed Nicole Lent of Mayfield as the new Warren Street Elementary School principal. She most recently served as the assistant principal at the Gloversville Middle School.

A search committee of board members, administrators, faculty and parents interviewed candidates and recommended Lent as one of two finalists for the principalship.

With grade-level grouping this school year, Warren Street Elementary School is now exclusively for grades four, five and six.

District Superintendent Robert DeLilli said Monday that Ziomek, with his "energy level and commitment to education," did a "great job" for the district.

"We're looking forward to [Lent] filling in Scott's absence and taking the building and continuing to improve on what's already there," DeLilli added.

Lent will earn $79,000 per year, prorated in her tenured position. She will be begin Oct. 14 and her appointment runs through Oct. 13, 2017.

"I am very excited about my new adventure at Warren Street Elementary School and Johnstown school district," Lent said in a prepared statement Monday. "I think this is a very exciting time for the district as they begin grade-level groupings, and am grateful for the opportunity to join the team at Warren Street with my experience as a fourth-grade teacher, and in special education in grades fifth and sixth. As assistant principal at Gloversville Middle School, I have grown as an instructional leader and am eager to bring my knowledge and experiences with me. I can't wait to get to know all the students, families and staff at Warren Street."

Ziomek resigned, effective Thursday, to become the new assistant principal for Schalmont Middle School in Schenectady. He has served the district since 2009.

Prior to 2011, Lent served as an elementary teacher in the Northville Central School District, teaching grades one, two and four for nearly 10 years. She also taught special education in the Mayfield Central School District and at Maple Avenue Middle School in Saratoga Springs.
