Mokbel: Arsenal will only let Vermaelen go if they can sign Manchester City star

Arsenal will only let Thomas Vermaelen join Manchester United if they can bring in Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic as a replacement, according to Daily Mail football writer Sami Mokbel.

The Gunners club captain has been unable to oust the defensive partnership of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny and the Red Devils are hotly tipped to land the Belgian centre-back this summer.

Arsene Wenger acknowledged the possibility Vermaelen could leave in the transfer window and claimed they would bring in a replacement with Nastasic believed to be on the French manager's radar.

And Mokbel told Kick Off: ""Man United want Vermaelen thats not a secret but a arent willing to let him go until theyve got a replacement in the bag and done and dusted.

"Nastasic is a player they do like Im told. He might be on the market if and when Eliaquim Mangala arrives at Manchester City.

"If Mangala does go to City then I can see Arsenal making a move for Nastasic."
