CAREY - Appropriations for the village of Carey will be up 14 percent for 2015 thanks in large part to projects the village is undertaking from the electrical replacement/expansion to the culvert project.

The total is tabbed for $19,811,484.10, which included a General Fund budget of $1,772,63341, an increase of 7 percent. Administrator Roy Johnson said $7 million is to be covered by grants and assistance for larger projects.

Appropriations include the potential for raises for village personnel. In a move approved earlier this year, department heads are to complete employee evaluations by the end of February and employees could see increases based on the results of those evaluations.

Also budgeted is $8,000 for contracting Richard Grafmiller and Kathy Collins as prosecutors for any case in municipal court. Any case that's not a felony from the village comes through the municipal court. A discussion of a raise was presented, but it was suggested a record of how many hours the prosecutors were tallying for the village's cases to find out if an increase is warranted.

One large project, a solar field, is expected to go live by the end of the year.

The village is awaiting for its Christmas/winter decorations to arrive and they are past due. The village agreed that while they are winter-themed instead of just specifically Christmas, if they arrive after Christmas, they will wait until next year to utilize them. The village received donations totaling $2,845 from 23 donors, which covered about half the cost of the decorations.

The village offices are to close at noon Christmas Eve and be closed Christmas day and New Year's Day.

In anticipation of an increase recyclable goods, the village is going to have the self-serve recycle containers at the Senior Depot Friday and Saturday, Dec. 26-27 and Jan. 2-3. Johnson reminded residents that wrapping paper is not accepted at the recycle centers.

As for leftover Christmas trees, residents can take them to the yard waste drop-off at the north end of town or have them on the curb by 8 a.m. Jan. 10 and the fire department is to collect them.

Reservations for pavilion rentals for 2015 are to begin Jan. 2.
