In honor of Earth Day, more than 250 volunteers worked together during the Bike Path Clean Up run by the Holmes Parents Club and the Jeffers Parents Organization. Volunteers cleaned up paths and trails throughout Spring Lake Township and public access points.

Event organizer Jessica Vander Ark said the event was a good way for families to get outdoors after a long winter, and it helped teach children good habits.

Its nice when people show they want to help, she said.

Members of local Girl Scout Troop 4019 joined parents, students and community members during the event. Girl Scout Emily Fett said they did it to rid the area of trash.

Because I love my Earth, the third-grader said was her personal reason for helping.

Another Girl Scout, Alaina Wahl, said they cleaned up the area to prevent wildlife from getting injured and to keep the trash from entering the water.

It makes me feel awesome inside because were helping to keep the Earth clean, the third-grader said.
