Some people in Fulton and Montgomery counties spent time on the Fourth of July cleaning up after a storm that caused power outages and damaged homes.

Crews from National Grid and some local Departments of Public Works were busy Friday repairing damage and cleaning up debris from the storm that hit the area Thursday afternoon and left thousands without power.

Tony Viola, of 157 Kingsboro Ave., said the street had lost power around 5 p.m. Thursday, and had not heard from National Grid about when he would get power back.

"I don't have a cell phone, so [National Grid] couldn't get me if they tried," Viola said.

Canbiba Baupista, of 143 Kingsboro Ave., said some neighbors had started up generators to deal with the power outage.

"No one could sleep well because of the generators," Baupista said.

Phone lines were taken out by a fallen tree on Orchard Street in Gloversville, with North Arlington and Bleecker Streets still blocked off Friday morning due to water from the Cayadutta Creek.
