Tree trimming and removal will be completed before Aspinwall's holiday celebration.

Ann Pawlikowski, chairwoman of the borough's environmental committee, said any trees that need to be trimmed in the business district will be completed before Nov. 12. Any removals also will be completed by the holiday event.

A total of 69 trees will be trimmed in the business district, and 18 will be removed, Pawlikowski said. Crews also will trim and remove some trees in residential areas.

A tree-planting event will be held sometime in the fall. Pawlikowski said she still is waiting for notification from TreeVitalize, an organization that provides trees to communities.

This will be the third year the borough has held a planting event. They normally are scheduled for early November.

Council President Joe Noro said borough crews will need to dig holes for trees that the town receives this year. In the past, the holes were dug for the borough before trees arrived.

Noro said completing the digging will be worth the cost because of the number of trees the borough normally receives.

Aspinwall has received a total of 52 trees the last two years.

Pawlikowski said a position on the borough's Shade Tree Commission, the group that oversees the trees in the borough, will be open in January. The term will be for five years. For information on the opening, contact the borough office at 412-781-0213.
