Buttcatch log lowering
14 minute video from 2002. Michael Oxman climbing a doug fir with Dixon Farmer Dylan handling the rope. Tree removal lowering logs weighing several hundred pound with 5/8" double braid rope running thru a pulley anchored with a sling tied with a Stilson hitch. Rope is tied to the tree with a clove hitch and a half hitch. The falling wedge is used to open the slot left by the chainsaw teeth removing sawdust. The crew knew that the rope could break anytime. Homeowner shot the footage with my camera, had no previous experience. We started by tying the lowering line to the logs with multiple hitches. Wrapping the rope around the trunk at least 3 times, the challenge was to get the slack out of the lines to lessen the shock load.From:MichaelOxmanViews:3 1ratingsTime:14:32More inEducation
