We are dedicated to the art and preservation of handmade ceramic tile. Founded in 1979, the Tile Works is known nationwide for our artistry and expertise in the manufacture and restoration of Victorian and Craftsman-era tiles.

Using authentic pre-industrial techniques, we have produced both original and reproduction designs for an impressive range of projects. These include high-profile restoration jobs, as well as original tiles for installation by leading architects and individual homeowners.

VICTORIAN POSTCARD TILES - Featured in this month's Victorian Homes!

The "Stork Delivering Baby" tile was originally created by Arthur Osborne for the JG Low Art Tile Co. of Chelsea, MA, circa 1883. In 1999 L'esperance Tile Works was asked by Sheila Menzies and Joe Taylor, of the Tile Heritage Foundation, to reproduce it as their annual Tile Award.

It was presented to the children of Barbara White Morse, to recognize her many years of research into the JG Low Art Tile Co. Her research lead to numerous published articles in magazines which focused on antiques and collectibles. She was known to many people as "The Victorian Art Tile Lady", and her recurring column in the monthly magazine, The Spinning Wheel, was called "Tiles to Treasure" Both of these inscriptions were stamped onto the front of the original award tile.

Only 4 of these tiles were made - 1 for each of her 2 children, 1 for the Tile Heritage Foundations collection, and 1 for L'esperance Tile Works collection. The tile is now available for all to collect and enjoy.
