Sprinkler system spares Perryville-area townhouse from major fire damage By Carl Hamilton cahamilton@cecilwhig.com Cecil Daily

A townhouse near Perryville sustained several thousand dollars worth of damage on Wednesday after a malfunctioning clothes dryer triggered a blaze, but it could have been much worse, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.

Investigators are crediting a sprinkler system with taming the flames before they spread throughout the residence in the unit block of Starboard Court, leaving responding firefighters with little to do but vent the place and perform a safety check, fire officials reported.
