KOTA KINABALU: Water from the fire sprinkler system saved the Federal House in Sembulan from fire early yesterday.

The fire broke out about 9.30am in the pantry at the education office on the fifth floor of the multi-storey building that houses the offices of various government departments and agencies.

Scores of staff who had started work in the offices were immediately evacuated from the building.

Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Mohd Affendy Ramin said the department received a distress call at 9.45am and immediately sent a 19-member team in three fire engines and three utility motorcycles from Sembulan fire station to the scene.

However, the fire was already put out by the sprinkler when they arrived at the scene, he said.

He said the cause of the fire and damage had not been determined.
