Two separate incidents at local hotels triggers chaos.

The Colchester Police Department responded to two separate incidents at local hotels/motels where someone had called the front desk clerk claiming to be service personnel.

The first time, the caller posed as a sprinkler system employee. The caller asked the clerk to break the head off a sprinkler system because they said they were receiving an error message on their end.

Later, the individual called back claiming to be a pizza delivery person and asked to be connected with a room. The caller was connected, but changed their story when they reached the hotel guest. The caller pretended to be a hotel staff member and asked the guest to break the head of the system because of an error. The hotel guest complied with the request and consequently set the building's sprinkler system off causing an evacuation.

Shortly after the evacuation the same caller called the front desk clerk claiming to be a Colchester firefighter and asked to speak with the fire chief to get an update on the situation.

The caller is described as sounding like a younger male and appeared to have some knowledge of the sprinkler system.

Colchester police says that anyone with information about this situation should contact the department at 802-254-5556.
