FREEHOLD A new Habitat for Humanity house will soon be part of the streetscape in Freehold Borough, and it will provide a comfortable, safe and affordable residence for a family who will make it their home.

Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County, serving northeast and western Monmouth County, is a newly merged affiliate of Habitat for Humanity.

Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County Executive Director Ray Gabler said the organization will begin the new project on a property that has been subdivided into three lots on Center Street between Third and Fourth streets. Eventually, three Habitat homes will be constructed at that location.

Work on the first home is expected to begin in late March. Habitat officials are in the process of determining who will own the residence.

Gabler said the Colts Neck Reformed Church and St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold Borough, are working together to provide the primary source of funding for the home, which will provide an affordable place to live for a family who meets the Habitat criteria.

We are very grateful to the churches for their fundraising undertaking and charitable contributions to make this all happen, Gabler said.

The Colts Neck Reformed Church has received contributions from congregants, and St. Rose of Lima held a fundraising Raise the Roof concert that brought 250 people to the school on Jan. 17 for an evening of music from Tony Santoriello and Step Aside, the Eddie Testa Bank, Jimmy Arcoleo, Acoustic Beatles and Junction 13.

St. Rose of Lima is also sponsoring a fundraiser in which individuals may buy a roof shingle at the new home for $10. For more information, call 732-462-0859.
