Success = High income + family

Latest survey sheds light on how people define success.

High income and a family is thought of as the most important ingredients of success for a majority of country's working professionals surveyed, says a study by LinkedIn.

Around 56 per cent of senior professionals termed high income as the top indicator for success, followed by having a family (50 per cent) and owning a nice house (38 per cent), according to the professional networking site.

Overall, more than half of the respondents (55 per cent) cited having a family as the most important aspect, followed by high income (51 per cent) and owning a nice house (41 per cent).

"As professionals take on senior roles and advance in their careers, the desire for stability and recognition is natural," LinkedIn India Managing Director Nishant Rao said.

"It was interesting to see them realise and acknowledge the role of others in their network who help surface insights and opportunities which can play an amplification role in one's career," Rao added.

Although having a family was cited as the top measure of success, 33 per cent of the senior professionals in Asia Pacific said that leaving work to start a family is difficult.

In this group, the largest number is in Singapore (40 per cent) followed by India (36 per cent), Hong Kong (35 per cent) and Australia (20 per cent).

In India, 43 per cent working women found this transition more difficult than men (35 per cent).
