Fremantle may be out of the 2014 AFL premiership race, but coach Ross Lyon says his side is in really good shape to challenge again in 2015.

He has predicted some key additions to the Dockers list, as well as some significant changes to the way the side trains.

Lyon said that his coaches needed more time to work with the players and that the club needed to investigate a better goal kicking program.

That comes on the back of the 11.17 the Dockers kicked in their 22-point loss to Port on Saturday night.

The Dockers let a 31-point first-half lead slip in their cut throat semi-final against Port Adelaide at Patersons Stadium to lose.

They failed to make the most of their opportunities when they dominated play in the first half - which you can't do against the best second-half side in the competition.

By half-time they had managed 6.11 from 28 inside 50 entries. Port had kicked 3.5.

But Port fired after the break, kicking 12.10 to Fremantle's 5.6 after half-time, sparked by Robbie Gray's four goals in the third term.
