Attic for adults Home and Garden More Home & Garden On The House By Jim Weiker The Columbus Dispatch Sunday April 27, 2014 8:42 AM

When Jenny Klaus and Mike Falkenhain sought extra living space in their Victorian Village home several years ago, they knew they could find it in the huge unfinished attic.

But the couple wasnt sure how to use the space. With one of their children then in preschool, they considered finishing the space as a playroom. As the children grew, however, the couples needs changed.

By the time they decided to move forward on the project last year, they needed a master suite more than a playroom.

Working with Ketron Custom Builders of Granville, the couple turned 1,400 square feet of unfinished attic space into an adult retreat a master bedroom and bathroom, an exercise room, a walk-in closet and a sitting area.

The results will be open to visitors next weekend during the annual Home Improvement Showcase sponsored by the central Ohio chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.

The Victorian Village home is one of 16 stops on the tour, which showcases home renovations from the basement to the attic.

Klaus and Falkenhain, who are both doctors, have enjoyed their attic master suite for six months.

Theres nothing I dont like about it, Klaus said.

The room seemingly a natural extension of the house is lighted by windows on three sides, including a massive half-circle below the 17-foot-high roof pitch that spreads moonlight through the room.
