Once a state review of preliminary plans are completed, architects will begin developing final plans on a 2,300-square-foot weight room addition on the Wapello High School campus, officials were told Monday.

In the meantime, the school could begin distributing the plans, although no bids could be accepted until the final plans are completed, Burlington architect David Metzger told the board.

He recommended the board ask bidders to submit proposals that would start construction next March and finish it by August 2014. He said an alternate bid could be included that would require the low bidder to begin construction in July or August 2013 and have it finished in December. An entry could be completed by June 2014.

Metzger said the two different construction periods would give the board the best information on costs and time frames.

In other action, the board approved spending about $56,000 to upgrade technology. Funding for the new equipment would be provided through the districts one-cent state sales tax.
