KUCHING: The project to install roofing at India Street here is under tender and the installation work expected to commence end of this month with the appointment of a contractor.

Kuching City North Commission (DBKU) Datuk Bandar Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai hoped India Street traders would cooperate with the contractor.

We want every trader at India Street to cooperate to avoid any problem that can delay the installation of the roofing.

Although it will somehow disrupt the business of traders in India Street, we believe it can be overcome with cooperation from everyone, he said when met at a Jalur Gemilang presentation ceremony at India Street here yesterday.

The fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign is an effort by DBKU to instil the spirit of patriotism and love for the country in conjunction with the countrys 57th Independence Day this Sunday.

Abang Abdul Wahap assured traders they would be allowed to trade in India Street while the contractor is installing the roofing.

Traders need not feel uneasy about interference by the roofing installation as it will be conducted in stages. The contractor will start the project by installing poles using micro-piling that cause minimum vibration to nearby buildings.

Abang Abdul Wahap who also visited the Orang Utan mural at India Street was dismayed that many city folk had conveniently thrown their litter into the wheel-barrow that was supposed to be part of a mural depicting an orangutan. This was revealed by a closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording.

Once again, I remind city folk not to treat the wheel-barrow like a rubbish bin. They should love the city and make Kuching city beautiful, clean and safe.

Also present at the event were DBKU member Dato Wee Hong Seng and its principal assistant director Kartina Zamhari.
