Parliaments roofing ripped off by rainstorm

A rainstorm that recently hit Accra ripped off the top layer of the main chamber of Parliament, forcing a second postponement of resumption date of the Second Meeting of the Second Session of the Sixth Parliament.

But for the second layer of roofing, the main chamber, which hosts most of the substantial deliberations of the legislature, would have been flooded. The roofing has since been repaired and replaced.

These were made known by Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho on Tuesday, June 10 when the House finally reconvened for the Second Meeting.

Speaker Adjaho said the situation was one of the reasons why resumption of sitting had to be postponed twice.

The House went on recess on March 28 and was expected to resume on May 27. But this date was changed to June 3, which was also changed to June 10.

Members of the Minority blamed the situation on financial constraints.

Let the Finance Ministry be reminded that Parliament will no more allow what has happened to continue happening, said Dominic Nitiwul, the Deputy Minority Leader, in his remarks on Tuesday.

The Member of Parliament for Bimbilla Constituency said that the Ministry could seek the House's assistance in situations like that in order to keep its business on course.
