CONYERS Superintendent Richard Autry recommended that the Rockdale County Board of Education approve Baker Roofing as the contractor of choice for repairs to the Building & Grounds/Purchasing Facility at the boards regular meeting Thursday.

The warehouse, which houses both the Building & Grounds and Purchasing facilities, has a 25-year-old metal roof that is in need of repairs and coating to prevent leaks, according to the school system. A bid analysis from the BOE states that the leaks are especially prevalent during heavy, blowing rain, and coating the roof will improve the buildings energy efficiency. The repairs will also include replacement of existing gutters and downspouts.

Out of eight bidders, Baker Roofing submitted the low bid of $56,562. A-1 Construction bid $135,000. The school systems budget for the project is $75,000. Funding for the project will come from SPLOST III revenues.

Depending on weather conditions, the roofing construction should be completed by spring break. The warehouse facility is to remain in use for the duration of the project.
