A Lancaster man was killed after he drove an all-terrain vehicle over a three-foot high retaining wall.

Mark Addison, 55, died at the scene on Coon Hollow Road in the town of Liberty in Grant County, the Grant County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

The crash happened at about 7:45 p.m. Thursday on property owned by Brian Cathman of Lancaster, the release said.

The investigation showed Addison drove the four-wheeled ATV off the retaining wall, getting thrown from the vehicle when it went over.

He wasn't wearing any type of protective gear.

"It is not clear why he drove over the retaining wall on the four-wheeler," said Sheriff Nate Dreckman.

The crash remains under investigation.
