BEND, Ore. -

A 16-year-old Bend youth was arrested on DUII and other charges Saturday night after speeding and crashing his mothers car on Northeast Neff Road near Pilot Butte Middle School, police said.

The car struck a retaining wall and overturned, but the teen escaped with minor injuries, officers said.

Police responded shortly before 11 p.m. to the report of a crash on Neff Road near Northeast Eastwood Drive.

The investigation found that the boy was driving his mothers Ford Focus toward the west at a high rate of speed when it left Neff Road, hit the retaining wall and rolled, Sgt. Elizabeth Lawrence said in a news release.

The car was totaled, though the teen did not have to be extricated.

The teen was charged with DUII, criminal mischief and reckless driving, then released to his mother, Lawrence said. He also accused of violating the terms of his instructional permit, as there was no licensed driver with him.

The crash investigation and tow-truck removal of the wreckage closed Neff Road between Edgecliff and Shepard Road for about two hours.
