SHILLONG: The plan of the Meghalaya Government to set up an embarkation and disembarkation point at Khyndailad has caught the attention of many as OB Shopping Mall has now constructed a retaining wall on the same location.

However, Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has clarified that her department has allowed OB Shopping mall to construct a retaining wall for the safety of the building since the structure has been constructed on a tight slope of land.

According to Lyngdoh, the department together with OB Shopping mall are working on merging of ideas to ensure that the place is made beautiful.

Asked if the OB Shopping Mall had encroached on the land, Lyngdoh stated on Monday that the land would remain to be a public place and there was no way that OB Shopping Mall would encroach on the land.

Earlier, the Government had wanted to construct a bus bay at the location but the later the idea was cancelled as the land had a tight slop and it was risky for buses to be parked there.

Interestingly, there was also a plan of constructing a toilet in the same place and now Government would revise the proposal since earlier a toilet was included.

The work for the project has been kept in abeyance at the moment. Work will resume after the state is relieved from the restrictions of the model code of conduct due to the Lok Sabha elections.
