Excavation work taking place at the Kempock Street car park ahead of 500,000 repairs.

COUNCIL bosses are being forced to splash out 500,000 on emergency repairs to a crumbling Gourock sea wall.

Urgent work is needed on the structure along the towns Kempock Street car park and it is expected to begin at the same time as the controversial 5.25m one-way redevelopment.

It comes after Inverclyde Council drafted in experts to survey the stability of the sea wall.

They soon discovered that a rapid quick-fix is needed to secure its long-term future.

But the repairs are set to cost 500,000 double the amount set aside for the work in the current budget.

Now officials have had to ask councillors to approve extra cash for the project.

It will be taken from the 2015/16 funding pot.
