Construction is finally underway on the Fraser Centre in downtown State College. Crews are working to get the grounds at the corner of Fraser Street and West Beaver Avenue ready for construction. Current plans for the center include retail space, a Hyatt Place hotel, residential condos and restaurants. The building will be 65,000 square feet and 158 feet tall. The Fraser Centre Project was first proposed in 2007 and has since run into several delays. Downtown State College improvement district representatives say the project is an exciting addition to the area. "We know this will be a convenience for folks for a while. We hope that our loyal patrons of downtown State College will stick with us through this project, said George Arnold, Executive Director of Downtown State College Improvement District. It will certainly impact some streets closing, but remember our businesses down here, they are here and you know, this project will ultimately improve downtown State College." The first phase of the project is expected to be complete by spring, and the second phase should begin in April or may.
