After 39 years, the McDonalds on 10th Street will undergo a major transformation by this summer.

The restaurant, at 2912 10th St. across from the Greeley police headquarters, will close on Sunday in preparation for demolition of the building, owned by Ernie and Jean Martin.

The restaurant will be torn down beginning next week. Greeley planner Mike Garrott said demolition could take more than a week, and it could take another month to prep the site for construction of a new restaurant.

Its slated to re-open by summer with the latest bells and whistles, but owners have yet to pull a building permit to begin the process.

Itll be a really nice store, Garrott said. From an architectural aspect, it will be mixture of brick and stone, and some tile work on the building itself. It will have more of the modern look of the newer McDonalds.

The Martins have opted for a modern type of McDonalds complete with a three-lane drive through system and covered parking with portions of solar panels on top to help power the building, Garrott said.

The original 3,788-square-foot restaurant was built in 1975, and includes an outdoor play and eating area. The new building will be more than 5,600 square feet.

The planned new restaurant will be built with recycled materials from the existing restaurant, it will have more environmental features, and an indoor play area, Garrott said.

Ernie Martin did not return calls seeking comment for this story.
