The Vernon County Boards building and facilities committee received an update on the progress of the Veterans Service Office (VSO) remodeling project, last Thursday.

Highway commissioner Phil Hewitt said the contractor, Joel Dewitt, whom the committee approved in November to remodel the lower level of the Banta Building for the VSO, is bringing his tools in. All the licenses and permits are in order, Hewitt said, and that the contractor told Hewitt he would be on schedule for the remodel.

Hes got three months, county board supervisor and committee chair Jerry Cade said.

Dewitts bid for the remodel was $84,400.

Fire protection lights need fixing

Hewitt informed the committee that the flashing strobe lights in the courthouse, which go off in the case of the fire, are not working.

The wiring is too light to handle it and the panel that controls it, thats too light; its not wired heavy enough, Hewitt said.

Hewitt didnt have a number of how much it was going to cost to repair, but said he would let the committee know if the expense was astronomical.

Cade asked if the county would need to change the breaker box as well.

Hewitt said the way he understood it, only the breakers needed replacing.
