EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- The public got a chance to weigh in on some remodeling plans for a popular street connecting Highway 53 with Business 53 on Monday night. Plans are in the works for Melby Street and possible designs were on display for the public. The meeting was held at the fire station on Dewey Street.

The new plans include removing and replacing the existing surface, adding curbs and a bike lane, and upgrading the sewers and water mains among a number of other upgrades.

City engineer Dave Solberg says, "We've been selected to receive close to 800-thousand dollars of funding to help offset the cost of the project so with that we're looking at creating a high quality road with that money."

If everything goes as planned, construction would start in the summer 2016 and would take about 10-to-12 weeks.
