A figure for how much the House will spend was not available, Joe Griffin, a spokesman for Speaker T.W. Shannon, said this week.

The Senate is expected to spend as much as $3 million to remodel offices and a conference room in space it controls on the second, third and fifth floors.

The House plans to remodel space left vacant on the second floor when the appellate courts moved to a new building.

Griffin said the remodeling will involve about 16 offices and at least one conference room.

The House is selecting a construction manager that will take competitive bids on the work, Griffin said.

"We are looking at a start date of around mid-June and hope to be finished in December," he said.

Lawmakers return to the Capitol to start their regular session in February.

Rep. Jason Murphey, R-Guthrie, said the House remodeling will be considerably less costly than the Senate's plans.
