DANVILLE Remodeling of the Hendricks County Courthouse will begin soon in an effort to improve overall functionality.

Kevin Cavanaugh, facilities manager of the Hendricks County Engineering Department, said there are several areas of the courthouse getting a touch-up.

Superior Court 5 will be relocated to the second floor, in the space previously occupied by the Prosecutors Office, he said. The southeast corner of the first floor will be remodeled to accommodate the Deputies Office and holding cell. (There will also be) an expanded womens restroom and an expanded custodial office and storage area.

He added that Superior Court 4 will be remodeled and expand into the space previously occupied by the Deputies Office and holding cell.

Cavanaugh said there are plans for two Magistrate Courts, one where the current Superior 5 Court Room and offices are now, and the other on the third floor.

The southwest corner of the third floor will be remodeled to accommodate a possible second Magistrate Court, he said.

Cavanaugh explained that there are several reasons why the renovations are necessary.

Superior Courts 4 and 5 are the smallest in the building and need to expand to handle changes to their case load and to improve security between the offices and court room for Superior Court 5, he said.
