Finally, a workout that not only makes you look and feel better, it makes your house look better too.

The SCW Spring Cleaning Workout is a fusion of core and chore, squat and scrub, weights and wiping.

A 150-pound person can burn 250 calories with every hour of general housecleaning which is more than the calories burned from a three-kilometre walk, says personal trainer Jessica Zapata.

As with everything, the harder you work, the more you get out of it.

The gym isnt for everyone, she notes. This gives people a different way to be active. For those already active, it enhances healthy living.

In fact, what better way to maintain or improve function through exercise so you can do the things you need to do in your daily life, than by actually doing those things as exercise?

Granted, not everybody loves to clean, but theres something about spring and new beginnings that gets more of us itching to purge the things we dont need or use, reorganize the things we want to keep, and make our home environment sparkle and shine from top to bottom at least once a year, Zapata says.

With husband Tristan, who is also a personal trainer the couple co-owns Infinite Fitness, a personal fitness studio in Edmonton Zapata has come up with a seven-part SCW that works every part of your body.

To boost your motivation, she suggests putting on some music. Something with a good beat, something upbeat, played as loud as you like, to keep you going.
