(PIX11) When youre out trick-or-treating Friday, you may see a pumpkin that doesnt look like the others.

Teal-colored gourds are expected to decorate the front lawns and porches of homes across the country as part of a move to start a new Halloween tradition.

Its spearheaded by FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education) and the blue-hued pumpkins signal that home is handing out non-food treats, perfect for costumed kiddies with food allergies.

Halloween can be a tricky time quite literally for families managing food allergies because many traditional Halloween treats arent safe for children with life-threatening food allergies, the organization said.

To participate in the movement, FARE recommends painting a pumpkin teal the color of food allergy awareness and hand out trinkets like crayons, glow sticks, bubbles, bouncy balls or stickers.
