Thieves Targeting Homes with Packages on Front Porches

LITTLE ROCK, AR - More than $100 billion worth of goods are expected to be bought online this holiday season, but when it's delivered police say it's an easy target for thieves.

Online sales this holiday season are expected to grow by 10 percent. That means there will be a lot of this, packages sitting by the front door waiting for people to come home and get them.

Police say it's exactly what crooks are looking for.

Surveillance video from a neighbor's house captures a car driving by, stopping, then pulling into the driveway. Off camera police say crooks got out and snatched packages off the porch and puled off.

"I think it's terrible," says Erenestine Bryant of west Little Rock.

When police stopped Deyonna Brown and Nekco Hodges, officers say they found nearly $1,000 worth of goods stolen from he porches of four west Little Rock homes.

"All these places are delivering and they're just dropping it off on your front porch," says Bryant.

This afternoon we spotted packages being delivered out of a U-Haul truck at one house. At another, they were stacked up waiting for someone to get home.

Police say that would be a good idea, as online shopping becomes more common so do thieves are seeking to steal the stuff when it's delivered.

"For the sake of convenience I'd want it delivered to my front door but if it's an item of great value I would have it either signed for by the company that's delivered it or have a neighbor that stays at home," says Lt. Sidney Allen.
