NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) It is dangerous to not clear off heavy snow, but in Massachusetts Thursday it proved deadly.

A 29-year-old woman was killed Thursday afternoon in Weymouth, just outside of Boston when her carport, piled with snow, collapsed on her.

Its critical that you get rid of the snow off roofs and have it done by a professional.

The string of winter storms caused a build up of snow and ice that is wreaking havoc on homes and buildings across the state.

Crews tore down a warehouse on Water Street in West Haven after the roof came crashing down Wednesday night. The vacant warehouse was an old building made of wood construction.

Officials say snowstorm after snowstorm took a toll on the building, the snow and rain along with the age of the building lead to the collapse.

The best thing for everybody and the way the walls were bulging out and the way they could fall in the street, we had to get the building down, said Deputy Chief Scott Schwartz, West Haven.

And a similar scene in New Haven. Heavy snow is being blamed for a porch collapse on another street. The build up of snow made the weight extremely heavy.
