STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Authorities have shut down an international carjacking and stolen car ring that reportedly used Howland Hook to ship the stolen vehicles to West Africa, according to a report on NJ.com.

According to the post, 29 people have been charged and more than 160 vehicles recovered. The thieves operated in New Jersey and New York, acting state Attorney General John J. Hoffman said in a release.

The seven ringleaders are from Newark, Irvington, Belleville and Roselle, N.J., according to the NJ.com report.
