Four men have been arrested in connection to a string of vehicle burglaries in Tangipahoa Parish that date back to May 2014.

The vehicle burglaries, more than a dozen, stretched between Old Covington Highway to River Road and into the City of Hammond.

Sheriffs detectives received information that 33-year-old Kevin Gales was the alleged primary suspect. Deputies say Gales was working with several associates in connection to these burglaries. The sheriff's office and the Hammond Police Department teamed up to catch the alleged crooks.

In the predawn hours of July 15, 2014, the Hammond Police Department stopped a vehicle occupied by Gales. During the roadside investigation, officers found four stolen firearms inside the vehicle. Two of the recovered firearms were reported stolen from a marked law enforcement unit on July 9, 2014.

Search warrants were executed at several homes in Hammond, including Gales' home. Investigators found numerous reported stolen items, including a bullet proof vest and ammo. Those items were reported stolen in May 2014.

Deputies say 33-year-old Kevin Gales, 18-year-old Cody Austin, 50-year-old Garvey Newman and 18-year-old Khalil Franklin, all of Hammond, were arrested. They were all chchargedith four counts of felony possession of a firearm and two counts of felony possession of stolen property.
