Westerville police are cautioning residents to be vigilant because someone apparently has been setting fire to homes with people inside.

In the past week, four such fires have been reported within about a 2-mile radius. Police say the fires appear to have been set, sometimes on porches or rear decks. Some of the fires have been small; others have caused notable damage.

The fires were set at homes on Allview Road, Cherrington Road, Cornell Court and W. Broadway Avenue. At each house, the residents were home when the fires were set.

Police ask anyone with information related to the fires to call the Westerville Division of Police at 614-882-7444 or an anonymous tip line at 614-901-6866.
