SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO -- A South San Francisco plumber was arrested on suspicion of murder after he allegedly bludgeoned another man to death at a gym Wednesday, police said.

Kenneth Osako, 46, is being held without bail in the San Mateo County Jail after he was arrested by South San Francisco officers and a special agent with the Department of Homeland Security Thursday morning, police said.

Around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to a gym in the 100 block of El Camino Real for reports of an assault. When police arrived, they were told a gym member had been brutally attacked with a solid steel bar -- "normally used to lift weights," police said -- by another gym member, identified as Osako, police said.

The victim, who has not been identified, was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital, where he died from his injuries Thursday morning, according to police.

Police did not say where Osako was found Thursday morning, nor did they say why the Department of Homeland Security was involved in his arrest.
