ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (NEWSPLEX) -- A plumber had to be rushed to the hospital after a natural gas explosion caused a home to catch fire in Albemarle County.

It happened shortly before 4:00 Friday afternoon at a home on Terrell Road West.

The homeowner and a plumber were in the home at the time of the explosion, which firefighters say was caused by a minor natural gas explosion.

The home was damaged after crews had to cut into the floors and walls to get into the crawlspace to fight the fire.

While they don't know the cause of the explosion, firefighters stress the importance of taking proper precautions when dealing with natural gas.

The plumber was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center to get checked out. His injuries were non-life threatening.
