MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) will implement the Rodent Control Campaign throughout the city in line with its tourism theme of cleanliness and for the 10th anniversary celebration of Miri City.

Its mayor Lawrence Lai told The Borneo Post recently that cleanliness is one of the factors to ensure its success as a resort city.

Lai said the campaign aims to create public awareness on the importance of a clean environment for their health and wellbeing.

He said the people should take part in the campaign to get rid of rodents to ensure its success.

The council, he said, has worked closely with Miri Coffee Shop Association by giving PVC tubes and rat poison to be placed at the coffee shop premises of members. Some 100 members were using the rat baits.

This campaign is ongoing and we will continue to give the devices and rat poison free to members participating in the campaign.

The council also outsources to the pest control company rat control activities for open areas such as Boulevard, Pelita and Taman Tunku Commercial Centre, he said.

The vector control unit under the councils public health section will control the rat at the council market, tamu and other food centres by laying baits twice a month.

He thanked the association for supporting the campaign and hoped others would follow in their footsteps to make Miri a clean and liveable city.
