Pest control guides will soon be available on smartphones

Those thick pest management guides that have been a fixture in pickups, tractors, and sprayers for years are on the verge of being replaced. The North Dakota State University Pest Management app includes everything that is printed in pest management guides and more. For example, the app will have full-color photos of weeds, insects, and diseases. The app has been submitted to both Apple and Android for approval to be added to their respective app stores. The goal is to have them available before the 2014 cropping season begins. The app will be listed under the name NDSU Pest Management and will be offered free of charge to growers, chemical applicators, crop consultants, and anyone else involved in crop production. It will be available for iPhone, iPad, and Android smartphones and tablets. The app is free, thanks to funding from several commodity groups, including the National Sunflower Association. Producers who use the app once its available are encouraged to send comments and feedback to ndsu.pest.management@ndsu.edu.
