Ecoshield Pest Control, a company dedicated towards aiding residential and business areas with insects and other rodents, recently began another endeavor to help those in need. They have set up a website in hopes of collecting food and other essential items for those less fortunate.

Exterminate Hunger is an initiative designed by the company to accept donations of non-perishable food items that then get distributed to area families in need throughout the country. To date, they have received more than 6,700 donations from people nationally. In Houston, Exterminate Hunger has collected more than 750 donations.

Hunger is not just an American problem; its everyones problem, said Ecoshield Pest Control CEO Doug Cardon. While many people might think other countries have a greater need, the fact is that one in every six Americans faces that challenge. Millions of Americans are unable to adequately provide for themselves and their families. Frequently, they are hard-working adults or seniors and children who are forced to go without food for several meals, or even days.

Ecoshield Pest Control offices in other states have also overseen successful drives. Drop-off sites in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Corona, California, for example, have gathered more than 1,000 and 2,500 contributions, respectively. The outpouring of support has been tremendous, but it should not stop after the holidays, Cardon said.

We think about those who do not have as much during the holidays, but hunger is a year-round problem, said Cardon. Hunger does not take the rest of the year off. Families have to struggle to find food and that should not be the case. Thats why we have this plan to help those who need it available.
