As outdoor temperatures increase, so does the number of customer calls Gemtek Pest Control receives for elm seed bug infestations.

The bug is native to south central Europe but made its way to Idaho around 2009.The bug is only 1/3 inch long fully grown, and 1/8 inch or smaller when immature, which makes it easy for them to slip through small cracks and into your home.

The bugs live in Idaho year-round but spend cooler months living in elm trees. As temperatures rise, bugs seeking cooler temperatures welcome themselves into Idaho homes.

"Generally when we get called to a house it will be 50-60 bugs in a single room that have made their way inside, and hundreds outside," Brian Ellsworth said with Gemtek Pest Control.

Gemtek Pest Control is gearing up with Syngenta - a global insecticide manufacturer - to conduct a 28-day trial on infested Ada County homes.

The homes must be heavily infested with elm seed bugs and within Ada County boundaries.
