Many restaurant patios opening early, thanks to the warm weather

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) You probably love digging into a meal or a downing a cool drink out in the sunshine during the summer. But now? In winter?

As we prepare for another mild day here on the west coast, it seems some restaurant owners arent waiting for spring to bring out the patio furniture.

A lot of eateries will be opening up their patios much earlier than normal, says Ian Tostenson with the BC Restaurant and Foodservices Association.

He adds he was in Whistler a couple of days ago and noticed a patio packed with people and they werent wearing ski gear.

If you go back to the Olympics in 2010, we had weather like this and we saw patios open, he tells us.

Tostenson adds a restaurant that opens a patio generally does about 30 per cent more business than one that doesnt.
