The Colonial house at 536 Woodridge Ave. is in a convenient location in the Lake Hills neighborhood, near a beach, close to shopping and restaurants along Black Rock Turnpike and not far from the Merritt Parkway.

The house is also within an easy traveling distance to several other local parks including Lake Mohegan recreation area, High Ridge Park and Burroughs Park. The Fairfield Woods Branch Library also is nearby. And the most convenient spot is Lake Hills Beach on Samp Mortar Reservoir, only 500 feet away from the house. The beach is part of Lake Hills Association, a private community association.

For those days when the new residents of this house prefer to lounge around rather than be active they have a property of just under a half an acre where they can sit on the long, covered front porch or in the backyard on the deck or patio. There's always gardening, which is work but also enjoyable. There are some existing flower beds, including a raised bed along the lattice-work base of the front porch and ample room for others.

Although this 2,612-square-foot house was built in 1951, it is newly renovated and boasts a modern gourmet kitchen and updated baths.

The layout was altered to open the living room to the kitchen, which features black granite counters, stainless appliances -- including a six-burner gas-fueled Viking range, a small center island, and hardwood floor. An L-shaped, built-in banquette with Wainscoting provides a separate eat-in area. A granite topped peninsula creates a three-person breakfast bar.

The eat-in area of the kitchen has a door to the raised Trex deck through which the fenced backyard and patio can be accessed. There is a hot tub on the patio. This side of the house also has a mudroom with built-in cabinets and two closets, and a casual entrance to the house from the front porch. Enter the house from the one-car garage into the mudroom.

Rounding out the first floor are the dining room, office and a powder room with a marble basket weave-patterned tile floor.

On the second floor, there are three bedrooms, all with hardwood floors, and a hall bath. The master has its own bath and a walk-in closet. The master bath has a pale green ceramic tile floor, soaking tub, frameless glass shower and double-sink vanity.

There is a large bonus room on the third floor, which has wall-to-wall carpeting. The room goes the width of the house and offers a number of possibilities. It could be used as a fourth bedroom, office, play room, small family room, media space, homework or computer area, art studio, exercise room or storage. Then again, there is ample storage in the unfinished basement.

Actually, the finished walk-up attic/bonus room is large enough to divide it into three distinct spaces so it could have multiple uses. One section has a built-in window seat. There are two skylights to bring in additional natural light.
