A SPATE of daytime raids by burglars who smash their way in to homes through patio doors has been reported in Kingswood.

Mounted patrols were being staged today as part of an attempt to catch the criminals involved.

Police say six burglaries have been reported in the past week using the same method of entry, with most happening between 1pm and 3.30pm.

Televisions, jewellery, cash and tablet and laptop computers are being targeted by the burglars.

As well as stepping up patrols, police have sent information out to local Neighbourhood Watch groups.

Neighbourhood PC Nick Smart said: The most important message for local people is to call 999 immediately if they see someone acting suspiciously around neighbours homes.

Its also a good idea to make sure your back garden boundary is secure, with good quality locks on gates. Prickly plants along fences, walls and hedges will help to deter people from climbing over.

PC Smart also advised all smartphone and computer owners to install tracking software and register them for free at http://www.immobilise.com.

Anyone with information about the burglars should call 101.
