Police say patrols will increase after five burglaries in three days

BURGLARS struck six houses in three days across Braintree and Witham, stealing jewellery, a laptop and a car.

The Braintree break-ins happened in Rosemary Avenue on January 5, Sunnyside and Rayne Road on January 6, Martens Meadow on January 7 and Chelmer Road on January 8.

The raiders gained entry by smashing rear windows or patio doors before searching through the owners possessions upstairs and downstairs.

A silver Ford Focus was stolen from a driveway in Martens Meadow, along with money and a pillow case, plus perfumes, jewellery, a laptop and a set of knifes were taken in Rayne Road.

On January 7 two emerald and diamond cluster rings were stolen during a burglary in Witham.

It happened in Powers Hall End between 8.10am and 4.45pm on January 7, after the patio door at the back of the house was smashed.

Police say as a result of this spate of burglaries patrols in these areas will be increased with raised awareness and advice given to the public about how to protect their homes.

Anyone with information is urged to contact officers on 101 at Braintree Police station or PC Bradley Brown in Witham for the rings theft.
