A devastated householder returned from work last night to discover an out of control car had wiped out his award-winning garden before ploughing through his patio doors.

Jason Causton, 40, told the News how he returned to his home off Kings Hedges Road, Cambridge, to find that a BMW convertible had crashed through his garden fence before smashing into his house.

Mr Causton, who works professionally as a gardener at Newnham College, Cambridge, had spent the last 15 years perfecting the plot of land outside his house, which scooped best in show at last years council awards. But now he says there is nothing left.

Mr Causton, who lives with wife Emma, who was meant to be celebrating her 34th birthday yesterday, said: Im absolutely devastated. We have two house cats that dont go out my first concern was for the cats.

They are in shock upstairs at the moment, but then obviously seeing the garden as it was its like a bomb has hit it.
