Spring weather is trying to show up for more than an afternoon in the Billings area, and that means that some of the contractors working on the new Scheels megastore can move outside.

Were going to be starting the site work and landscaping, said project manager Tobin Toby Basta of Q&D Construction, the general contractor based in Sparks, Nev.

The 220,000-square-foot store at Shiloh Crossing at the corner of King Avenue West and Shiloh Road will open Sept. 6.

The building is nearly two acres by itself. The rest is asphalt, sidewalk or landscaping, he said.

The main tanks for the 16,000-gallon salt water aquarium, which will hold 800 fish, are installed and work is continuing on the electrical and plumbing for the tank.

Carpenters are also building the restaurant and an airplane hangs from the ceiling of the two-story structure.

Its a replica aircraft of a Scheels outfitter float plane, Basta said.

The concrete mountain is completed: an interior landscape that will house 200 to 300 taxidermy animals.

The interior walls are almost all finished and six- to 10-person painting crews from T&L Painting in Great Falls are spray painting the walls.

They are here for months. They have thousands of man-hours, he said.
