The recent arrest in Weston of a fugitive wanted for attempted murder in Maryland was a good example of law enforcement officials working together on a common goal.

Weston Police assisted officers from the Stamford Police Department and the Sheriffs Office of Prince Georges County in making a quick arrest, safely without incident.

Well done.

But because the fugitive was arrested while painting a room in a Weston house, the incident raises the question about the kind of people unsuspecting homeowners may be letting into their homes.

While we may personally know the local contractors we hire to do painting, landscaping, and other odd jobs around our homes, how well do we know their workers?

Most times, the answer is, we dont.

We trust contractors to make good decisions, and vet their employees.

To ensure that, before hiring a contractor, ask the tough questions. Who will actually be on site for the job, and how well does the contractor know them?

Always check the contractors references and ask them how the workers were in their homes.

Its your home, you have the right to know whos in it. P.G.
